Thanks to - and from - our #1 Fan!
The Thunder Midget A team wants to thank Megan for supporting us and being our #1 fan. Megan, we hope to see you cheering at our playoff and playdown games!
Read on to see the wonderful letter from Megan's parents.

Below are excerpts from an email sent to the GGHA from Cathy, Megan's mom (warning - kleenex alert!):

Here is a pic of Megan cheering a Thunder goal earlier this year at the U of G – it helps that her uncle takes his camera to every game!

I am honored that you are willing to share my email and Megan’s pic on your website – I truly believe inclusion of everyone, no matter their ability, makes for stronger, more vibrant communities. It is important to showcase the kindness and compassion of this great group of young ladies. This season, because of Megan, they have, perhaps, learned a little more than hockey skills. The coaching staff and parents are fantastic role models, and I am so proud of the fact that Megan, in her own way, continues to share her gift of human spirit with them.

My niece plays for this team. My daughter Megan and I go to cheer Erika on at most home games (if they are not too late) and tournaments. Megan is 25 years old and is severely mentally handicapped.

Coach Greg, coach Paul, coach Dan and coach Doug all go out of their way to ‘chat’ with Megan at every game we attend. The girls of the team welcome Megan and Megan looks forward to giving them a ‘high 5’ at the start and end of each game. Megan loves to stand up against the glass to watch the action, and during pre-game warm-up, the girls all skate by and salute her with their sticks. Megan loves the attention from this wonderful group of new ‘friends’. Many of the parents go out of their way to say hello and speak with Megan at every game. It warms my heart to see Megan interacting with people from outside of her very limited social circle. She has become quite outgoing at the arenas, and now scans the faces in the crowd to wave to people who have taken a moment out of their day to speak with her.

The coaching staff has also graciously been giving Megan their medals that they have won in the past couple of tournaments – the look of joy and pride on Megan’s face when she receives her ‘trophy’ is priceless and has brought tears to the eyes of myself, and other parents/supporters who witness this selfless act.

There are no words to describe my heartfelt thanks for their ongoing kindness and compassion. You truly have a wonderful group of coaches, players and parents and Megan and I look forward to more cheering in the games to come!

Thank-you

Cathy & Megan Favaro
