Team Personnel, Roster, Midget A, 2018-2019 (Guelph Girls Hockey Association)

Wayne is excited to be leading the Midget A team for the 2017/18 season.  A native of Peterborough and its minor hockey system, Wayne has been in the Guelph area for the past 20 years. Married and a father of three rep hockey players; daughters aged 17 and 15, and a son aged 11, hockey is very much a part of the Byrd family.  An avid hockey player and fan, Wayne has also been a very dedicated coach and has been coaching girls hockey at the rep level for over 8 years.  He has been involved in the GGHA since 2012/13; most recently as current Assistant Coach with the Midget A team (2016/17) and as Head Coach of the Bantam A team (2015/16). Wayne’s coaching philosophy will be to develop a ‘team first’ attitude that will translate into a dedicated, no-quit atmosphere where the players will believe that hard work, heart and determination form the pillars of success and enjoyment.  Developing and reinforcing a strong sense of team across the players will be created by bringing his strong philosophy of communication and leadership to the players and staff.    
Team unity will provide the foundation for an energetic, competitive team as it sets out its own goals and commits to pursuing and achieving them together.  Wayne is excited to have the opportunity to continue developing the skills that the players have acquired to date; to continue fostering a positive environment of communication and team building; and to continue building the players’ passion for the game.  

Ian is a husband and father of two in a family obsessed with hockey.  His coaching experience includes three years as an assistant coach at the AAA level in boys’ hockey with the GMHA.  For the 2013-14 season, Ian served as an assistant coach with the Peewee B Jr. Gryphons of the Guelph Girls Hockey Association.  Ian is competitive by nature, but recognizes the importance of balancing this with a program that is fun and fosters a love of the game. Ian is committed to developing the team to reach their full potential throughout the season in an atmosphere of hard work, dedication and teamwork.
