U11 Initial Tryout Letter to Parents and Players
Dear U11 Players and Parents,

Thank you for your interest in trying out for the U11A GGHA hockey team this year. I wanted to write to you before the tryouts to introduce myself and share a few reminders about the tryout process.

My name is Chad Guyitt and I will be the Head Coach of the U11A team this year. I am excited to get things started and look forward to working with the team.

A quick note about the team: Simply put, we are striving to be a competitive team this coming season. Individual and teamwork skills will be the focus of our team throughout the year. Our team will be utilizing as much ice and training time as possible so please expect at least 3 to 4 days a week on the ice. We will continue to partner with the University of Guelph to access their coaching and their facilities. On and off the ice skills sessions will be the core of our skill development and to help support that the team will be participating in video feedback sessions focused on our game play. We expect to be participating in 4+ tournaments throughout the season with one of those being a tournament in the United States. Needless to say this is a huge time commitment for all involved so please have an honest conversation with your daughter before tryouts begin to ensure they are interested in this large commitment of time. Also if your daughter plays another sport that has their main season during the hockey season please think about your daughter’s ability to get the full development experience if sharing two sports.

TRYOUT PROCESS: The tryouts this year will be practice and scrimmage based as well as the final tryout will be a game against Kitchener. In preparation for these sessions here is a great article parents may wish to share with their player about The 8 Things Coaches Look For During Evaluations (omha.net) as well I encourage you all to read the GGHA Tryout Guidelines

There will be 6 tryouts this year to create the team.

The dates are:

Saturday, April 15th at Exhibition at 1:00pm NOTE: Internal Evaluation ONLY

Monday, April 17th at University of Guelph Red Rink at 6:00pm NOTE: Internal Evaluation ONLY

(NOTE: Changes to the tryouts may occur; players must regularly check the GGHA Tryout Schedule for the most accurate information.)

If you know that your player will not be able to attend one or more of these dates please email me ahead of time at [email protected] so I am aware.

How will players be notified of their standing within the tryout process?

***Releases could start to happen as early as after the first open tryout on Wednesday, April 19th.***

Releases will be posted on our website. Players who are selected for the team and final releases after the game against Kitchener will be emailed to the parent/ guardian using the email provided to GGHA. A response will be required to confirm receipt of the email.

Please make sure you are at the arena at least 45 minutes prior to the start of the tryout. Each player will need to check in at the table where they will receive a specific numbered try out jersey. NOTE: The jerseys MUST be returned after each tryout, please do not keep the jersey.

If you have any questions about the upcoming tryouts please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected]

I look forward to seeing everyone at the rink.

Chad Guyitt
