2020-2021 Hockey Season
Submitted By Donna Harrington on Sunday, August 23, 2020
Hockey will be different this year - not just for the Guelph Girls Hockey, but hockey everywhere!

On Wednesday August 19, the OWHA released their Return to Hockey Stage 3 Modified Programming (http://www.owha.on.ca/ Since that time, the GGHA has been working with the OWHA, the City of Guelph and the University of Guelph to develop a plan get our Gryphons back on the ice.

The GGHA is excited to announce that registration for the 2020/2021 season is expected to open soon, following OWHA Stage 3 guidance.

We understand that our players are excited to return to hockey.  We want to provide that opportunity while maintaining the safety of our players, families, referees, and arena staff as our highest priority.   We know that the 2020/2021 season will be different from the hockey we are used to.

We aim to establish an adaptable hockey program this year, that allows for varying levels of activity, depending on the Covid-19 Reopening Stage for our Public Health Unit (Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph).  Given this uncertainty, GGHA is committed to providing staged registration payments and a clear refund policy, should hockey programming be reduced.

2020-2021 Season Overview:
.
* No traditional league play (rep or house)
* At this time, there will be no tournaments
* There will be no tryouts or evaluation skates
* The first stage skills development at all levels
* Teams will be tiered and placed within bubbles of up to 50 girls
* No cross play can happen between bubble groups
* Games will be 3-on-3 or 4-on-4
* Teams will be created based on age, last year's team, number of players registered, input from current and past coaches, and with guidance from the Board
* We may ask local centres to play within our bubble groups if numbers permit (but teams can not play in 2 or more bubble groups)
* Teams will have 1-3 ice times per week initially; we expect this to increase as the season continues
* Fees will be collected at several times during the season, and will reflect any changes to protocols mandated by the OWHA and government agencies.
