Rowan's Law Day
The last Wednesday of each September has been designated as Rowan’s Law Day to help raise awareness about concussion safety.

Please join us in remembering Rowan Stringer by promoting concussion safety through a tweet, Facebook or Instagram post!

In May of 2013, Rowan Stringer, a high school rugby player from Ottawa, died because of a condition known as second impact syndrome – the catastrophic swelling of the brain caused by re-injury before a previous injury has healed.  Rowan is believed to have sustained three concussions over the course of six days. She collapsed on the field May 8, 2013, and died four days later.

In 2018, the Ontario Legislature passed a legislation creating Rowan’s Law, and one key component of this legislation is the declaration of Rowan’s Law Day.

It has since become a mandatory legislative requirement for sport organizations to ensure players under the age of 18, parents of athletes under the age of 18, coaches, trainers and officials sign a Rowan’s Law Acknowledgement Form prior to registration/participation.

We all have a responsibility to recognize a possible concussion following a hit to the head or body. If you’re experiencing even just one symptom, stop playing, sit out and find help.

GGHA wants to create more awareness of concussions, change the culture on concussions, and provide safe sport participation!

Join us in promoting concussion safety!
