Strategic Plan Update
During the 2023-2024 season, the GGHA board of directors collaborated with the International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership (IISBL) at the University of Guelph to help develop a strategic plan for our members.

The purpose of the study was to inform the decision-making process of GGHA leadership as we seek to establish a strategic direction that will best serve all members.

Thank you to all of those who participated! The data collection was done through individual surveys, a general member survey as well as individual athlete surveys for those on U15+ teams.

Key statistics:
  • 154 member surveys
  • 126 Athlete surveys
  • 21 Individual interviews
  • 82% of athletes and 69% of broader members reported that they have had an overall enjoyable and positive experience with the GGHA

The analysis revealed that to accomplish its goal of establishing a culture of excellence at all levels of hockey, the GGHA must direct improvement efforts towards player development, coaching development, organizational administration practices, and value alignment.

The report details recommendations to improve specific organizational features or functions within each of the areas were established using the Weakness, Implication, and Recommendation (WIRs) Principles. This involved using the data to identify and describe organizational weaknesses, determining the central implications of each weakness as it pertains to the GGHA’s central functions, and providing a recommendation to mitigate or address this issue.

Throughout the 2024-2025 year, the board will focus on rolling out initiatives that focus on the following:

Development:

  • Establishing Clarity & Direction in Player Development

  • Aligning Current Player Development Model

  • Younger Age Group Development

  • Furthering Support of Coaches

Organizational Practices

  • Codifying Essential Administrative Documents & Duties

  • Clarifying Communication Processes & Capturing Feedback

  • Acquiring & Retaining Volunteers

  • Enhancing Community Visibility
