Atom B wins Bronze!
The Atom B team this past weekend defied expectations and brought home the Bronze medal from the Cambridge Roadrunners Girls' Hockey Tournament.
After a slow start on Friday morning in a 6-0 loss to Kitchener, the team rallied and played a nearly perfect game against Ancaster. 9 girls got shots as the team downed Ancaster 4-1. Saturday morning, the streak continued with a victory against Kingston and goalie Paige's second shutout of the season in a 2-0 game.
The semi-finals saw the team take on division rivals Cambridge in a nail-biter. Despite out shooting Cambridge 20-17 and pinning the Roadrunners in their zone with an empty net for two full minutes, the Gryphons fell 1-0 and the stage was set for the third game of the day. The Gryphons came out flying, scoring three goals on their first three shifts against a bewildered Stoney Creek. The onslaught continued as the Atoms continued to pour shot after shot at the Sabres, who in desperation changed their goalie twice to find some momentum. In the end the Gryphons downed the Sabres 7-3 and took home the Bronze medal.Well done, ladies, for all your hard work.
You came as a team, you played as a team, and you won as a team. Great end to the regular season!
