Scott Walton:

Scott is a retired Canadian Armed Forces officer with 28 years service. On retirement he returned home to Guelph and has remained active coaching in both the GMHA and GGHA associations.  Previous to his retirement he was active in the Barrie Women’s Hockey Association for 8 years.  As a head coach and an assistant coach for all levels of girls hockey including the PWHL Barrie Jr Sharks as an assistant (video/bench coach) for his last 3 years in the organization.  Scott is a coach evaluator with the OWHA and Director of Hockey Operations for the GGHA. This will be Scott's 5th year with the GGHA - In his first year, he was co-coach of the Bantam A and his 2nd and 3rd year he was the head coach for the U18 AA team.  As a non-parent coach Scott brings an unbiased and fair approach to team and individual player development.  Players can expect to be challenged and rewarded for the efforts.  The team will continue to promote local and import talent while travelling to showcase tournaments.  The exposure of developing players to programs and opportunities beyond the U18 experience is a pillar of the U18 program.

Trevor Elmslie:

Trevor is excited to be returning to the U18 A team as a non-parent Head Coach. He is a long-time resident of Guelph and the father of two daughters who have played girls hockey for the last fifteen years.  He has coached girls hockey teams in two different centres for over 10 years, ranging from Fundamentals and U11 B through to U15 AA and U18 A. He has taught high school in Cambridge for the last 23 years, and is also an official with the Guelph and Hespeler Referees Associations. Player development and enjoyment of the game are two of the main pillars he strives to achieve each year; as such, there will be close cooperation with the U18AA program and the UofG throughout the season to provide opportunities to grow in skill and ability.

Sinead Daumas:

Originally from Europe and living in Great Britain growing up Sinead represented the County both in field hockey and kayaking. Her passion for hockey developed into her playing ice hockey. She was lucky enough to have played against Rachel Flannigan who is the University of Guelph Head Coach. A serious injury led to her stop playing for a while. She went back for 2 more seasons and was added onto Elite Prospects list. Sinead was back involved with hockey when her son started playing in Great Britain. She was involved with Telford Tigers until moving to Canada where a few years later was involved with Halton Hills minor hockey.

Sinead has been involved with GGHA since 2011 coaching novice and atom house league. She moved over to the rep system in 2014 when her daughter started playing Novice rep. Sinead has always been on bench staff throughout the years with GGHA.
Sinead believes in developing players while promoting a positive environment. To enable players to have clear direction, focus and achieve quantifiable success in all areas. For them to take ownership of their role, have player satisfaction and happiness, to prosper while learning and developing into the players that lead to higher level teams the following season.

Jordyn Cousins:

Jordyn is a female who grew up playing on the top tier teams of GGHA. Jordyn is now an elementary school teacher who has helped with the U13AA and now U15AA team alongside Josh Richardson.  She is looking forward to bringing more female non -parent coaching into the GGHA.

This is an important development year for Jordyn as she takes over the role of head coach with guidance from Josh (previous U15AA coach).  Jordyn has made it her goal to continue developing players to set them up for success moving to U18.

Jordyn is excited and is looking forward to the 2023-24 season!.

Michael Johnston:

Mike is excited and looking forward to coaching the U15A team.  He has been a coach in both girls and boys Rep Hockey for 25 years and played Rep hockey with the Chinguacousy minor hockey association (CMHA).  This experience and other educational opportunities have provided Mike with many ideas on how to develop and grow this year’s U15A team.

Mike’s coaching philosophy revolves around three things a player must develop to be successful: game sense, attitude and skills.  His theme as a coach is to teach the girls to never stop learning and to show them the importance of giving 110% in whatever they do, both on and off the ice. Mike works hard to create a safe environment that is positive and respectful to the female athletes through encouragement, teaching and fair discipline when needed.  Open communication between parents, coaches and players will create success for the team.

Sandra Payne:

Sandra has been a coach in women's hockey for over ten years in total, with experience at various levels, from B, all the way to the U16 Elite High-Performance program with the OWHA.

Sandra played hockey from the early age of 5 and continued playing at the AA and university level.

The mission and vision for the upcoming season is for the players to develop skills, hockey knowledge and team culture, in a safe and inclusive environment, that promotes learning, development and a winning mindset.

Sandra and her coaching staff are excited to join GGHA and help develop and move forward the U13AA/A team this season.

Mike Ruthven:

Mike has been involved with the GGHA as a coach for 9 years, and has daughters at the U15 and U13 age groups. He enjoys coaching in many sports, also getting involved with his son's baseball and football teams. Mike grew up playing recreational hockey and competitive baseball, and took up football in high school and played for the University of Guelph while he was there. His coaching philosophy is strongly focused on the idea that children's sport is sport first, and as such his primary coaching goal each year is to make sure every player on his team enjoys their experience and achieves their personal development goals enough to sign up to play again next year. Mutual respect, teamwork, and constantly striving to achieve new personal bests round out the rest of his values.

Chad Guyitt:

Chad Guyitt is really excited to be joining the GGHA community as a coach this year. He has one daughter in the system and he looks forward to working with his team to develop teamwork, leadership and hockey skills. He is an educator with a wide variety of coaching experiences from many different sports and the top priorities for his players will be ensuring they are having fun and building a love of the game.

Mike Murray:

For the past five years, Mike has been actively engaged with the GGHA as both an assistant and head coach. Growing up in Huron County, Mike played AAA minor hockey and four years of WOAA Senior AA on teams throughout southwestern Ontario. Mike is a proud father of two daughters who both play competitive hockey in the Guelph area.

Mike 's coaching philosophy focuses on fostering a fun, positive environment where players can develop their technical skills and grow their knowledge of all aspects of the game, including respect for the sport and commitment to their teammates. His objective is to encourage every players’ passion for the game and support their hockey aspirations to encourage lifelong involvement with the sport. Mike centres his team's identity around continuous improvement, determination, perseverance, consistency and relentlessness - playing every minute of every game better than the last.

Caroline Ross:

Coach Caroline is looking forward to her second year of coaching with the GGHA. Caroline’s coaching philosophy is REF, referees are an important part of every game, and so is Respect, Effort, and Fun. She is looking forward to instilling this philosophy into the next generation of GGHA rep hockey players, while keeping her focus on teaching these young ladies the basic skills of hockey and adding the aspect of teamwork and a rep hockey environment to the game. Go Gryphs Go!
