Scott Walton:

Scott is a retired Canadian Armed Forces officer with 28 years service. On retirement he returned home to Guelph and has remained active coaching in both the GMHA and GGHA associations.  Previous to his retirement he was active in the Barrie Women’s Hockey Association for 7 years.  As a head coach and an assistant coach for all levels of girls hockey including the PWHL Barrie Jr Sharks as an assistant (video/bench coach) for his last 3 years in the organization.  Scott is a coach evaluator with the OWHA and Director of Hockey Operations for the GGHA. This will be Scott's 3rd year with the GGHA - In his first year, he was co-coach of the Bantam A and his 2nd year he was the head coach for the Midget AA (U18) team.  As a non-parent coach Scott brings an unbiased and fair approach to team and individual player development.  Players can expect to be challenged and rewarded for the efforts.  The team will continue to promote local and import talent while travelling to showcase tournaments.  The exposure of developing players to programs and opportunities beyond the U18 experience is a pillar of the U18 program.

Scott Weese:

Scott is the father of 3 girls and has been a head or assistant coach from novice to midget. His focus is on player development and creating a fun, supportive and enthusiastic environment to foster development and love of the game, while challenging the players to reach their potential. He works to develop the player and the girl, realizing that being a member of a team can provide the girls with many life and social skills, in addition to hockey skills. Scott looks forward to coaching the team and looks forward to a great year.

Brad Broeckel:

Brad has coached with GMHA for 5 seasons and one of them being a non-parent. Most recently he joined GGHA as an assistant coach with the U15AA team. His coaching philosophy is focused on continued individual skill development of players along with team-oriented goals in a fun and positive environment. He believes that you should never shy away from hard work whether it be on or off the ice and if you work hard you can reach any goal you set out to accomplish.

Brian Turner:

Brian is the father of three girls and has been involved with the GGHA since 2015 and has been a part of the rep program for 3 years now.   As a player, Brian had a successful university hockey career and pursued further hockey opportunities prior to his current career.   Brian has been teaching for the past 18 years with the Halton District School Board and knows the foundation for any success begins with relationships.

Josh Richardson:

Josh is the father of two GGHA girls who played PeeWee AA and has been a head coach for 5 years. The focus of the PeeWee rep team will be to continue individual skill development, team play while having fun and learning to be a great teammate and member of the community.   Josh believes in developing well-rounded girls, fair play, positive reinforcement and inspiring dreams on and off the ice.

He is looking forward to a great 2021-2022 season – Go Gryphons Go!

Michael Johnston:

Mike is excited and looking forward to coaching the Midget A team with Scott.  He has been a coach in both girls and boys Rep Hockey for 25 years and played Rep hockey with the Chinguacousy minor hockey association (CMHA).  This experience and other educational opportunities have provided Mike with many ideas on how to develop and grow this year’s U13BB team.

Mike’s coaching philosophy revolves around three things a player must develop to be successful: game sense, attitude and skills.  His theme as a coach is to teach the girls to never stop learning and to show them the importance of giving 110% in whatever they do, both on and off the ice. Mike works hard to create a safe environment that is positive and respectful to the female athletes through encouragement, teaching and fair discipline when needed.  Open communication between parents, coaches and players will create success for the team.

Malcolm Briggs:

Malcolm is a long time resident of Guelph and has 2 kids that are active in hockey.  He is excited to have the opportunity to coach these young athletes.  Malcolm is currently the head coach of the Novice B team and has also assisted with coaching his son’s teams over the past several years, including AAA Gryphons teams and AAA/Elite spring and summer teams.  Malcolm’s work as a physiotherapist has also provided him with knowledge that is used in developing athletes both on and off the ice.

His focus will be to make this upcoming year fun and exciting for the girls in an environment that is encouraging and challenging.  Malcolm will do his best to make this experience positive, engaging and one that makes them want to play.

Chad Guyitt:

Chad Guyitt is really excited to be joining the GGHA community as a coach this year. He has one daughter in the system and he looks forward to working with his team to develop teamwork, leadership and hockey skills. He is an educator with a wide variety of coaching experiences from many different sports and the top priorities for his players will be ensuring they are having fun and building a love of the game.
