GGHA calls on members and the Guelph community to help maintain access to affordable ice and programming for youth.
The Guelph Girls Hockey Association (GGHA) is advocating for the continuation of the current youth subsidy at the Sleeman Centre.
A petition has been launched requesting that Guelph City Council retain this subsidy and continue supporting affordable access to recreational ice and youth programming. This support plays a critical role in ensuring that hockey remains accessible to families across our community.
The proposed removal of the youth subsidy will directly impact GGHA families. Hockey already carries significant costs, and even modest increases can create real financial barriers.
Without this subsidy:
-
Registration fees will rise
-
Participation may decline
-
Opportunities for young athletes could be reduced
-
The inclusive and supportive community we’ve built may be weakened
Affordable access is essential to keeping girls in sport and ensuring equal opportunity for all.

Our Commitment:
At GGHA, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to play, develop and thrive in hockey, regardless of financial circumstances. Maintaining the youth subsidy is a key part in making that possible.
Thank you for supporting girls hockey and affordable recreation in our community.
