NotesIn a heart breaking shoot out loss, the Atom A girls have so much to be proud of after their showing at the 37th Annual Orangeville Sweetheart tournament.
In a greatly matched, competitive hockey game, the Belleville Bearcats and the Jr Gryphons played two periods of super end-to-end hockey. With 4 minutes to go in the third, Jasmine M picked up the puck at center ice and went on the break away, beating the goalie and putting Guelph on the board. With 1:41 left in the third, Belleville pulled their goalie and went 6 strong. Despite our best defencive effort, they tied up the game with 41 seconds to go.
The 5 minute 4 on 4 overtime ended in a stale mate and the shooters were left to decide it. First shooter was Hanna who put one away, as did Belleville's first shooter. Second shooter Lauren was unsuccessful, but thankfully so was Bellevilles. It came down to the third and final shooter Dylan, who despite her best moves, was stopped by the goalie. Belleville's shooter scored and the game ended in a 1-2 loss. Coach Dave summed it up perfectly for the girls after the loss, "We won the game but lost a shoot-out." It was another great job by our girlsl!
The Atom A ladies host the Etobicoke Dolphins in their first LLFHL play-off game this Thursday at U of G (red). Puck drops at 6 PM.
