Welcome and thank you for coming out for the Guelph Jr.
Gryphon U13BB tryouts. This letter is to
provide additional information regarding the tryout process. Please read the rest of the article to get more information.
Schedule: ·
-1ST Tryout: Black vs. Red game: Sunday, April 27th @ UofG – Red from 6pm to 7pm ·
-2nd Tryout: Tuesday, April 29th @ U of G from 5:30pm to 6:30pm vs. Grand River ·
-3rd Tryout: Wednesday, April 30th @ North Dumfries Community Complex from 6pm to 7pm vs. Ayr Rockets · -4th Tryout: Saturday, May 3rd @ U of G at 12pm vs. Ayr Rockets
Releases may be made after the first tryout and the final roster will be decided after the May 3rd game vs. Ayr Rockets. Releases will be done on the website through your daughter’s number that she will be given at the beginning of the tryouts. Off-ice evaluations will be performed by Independent Evaluators (people that do not have a daughter trying out) who have hockey/coaching experience. The evaluators will be watching for the following positive qualities/behaviours/attitude: a consistent effort, a willingness to learn, coachability and competitiveness and hockey IQ. We will evaluate the athletes’ skills, but the qualities/behaviours/attitude will be weighted more in the final selection for the team.
The three most important things I am looking for combined with the above qualities are players who are aggressive, committed/motivated, and willing to learn new things/ideas. I want athletes who want to improve. I expect that our team will come before any other sports during our season and everyone must attend our 3 day camp before the season starts. If you have any concern about doing all this, then there are no hard feelings and this way there are no surprises or misunderstandings that arise as the season unfolds.
