Gryphons Inch Into Third Round
The Guelph Jr. Gryphons Midget A team advanced to the third round tonight after a nail biter finish in game 3.
After the Gryphons handedly took game one with a score of 3-0, the Brampton Canadettes came back strong in game two taking it to the Gryphons for much of the contest. The game ended in a draw and forced a third and final match up.
Brampton took the lead early in the second period with the Gryphons having no response for the Canadettes. Brampton went on to score two more in the third tying the series at 3 points. Guelph dominated much of the overtime period but were unable to find the back of the net. The scoreless overtime forced a best of 3 shootout with the winner advancing to round 3.
Kyle Bertrand put the Gryphons on the board first with a beautiful backhand shot past the Brampton net minder. Faith Mitchell came up big between the pipes blanking the Canadettes first shooter. Erika Phillips would the second and final shooter for Guelph blasting a bar down bullet into the net! Brampton would get one final shot but would come up short after hitting the crossbar.
Guelph advances to the third round where they will face off against the Clearview Icecats. The Gryphons have a regular season record of 2-1-0 against the Icecats. Congratulations girls and good luck in your next series!
