The Gryphons opened their season Friday night in the first of 4 away games in October.
The girls met the Cambridge Roadrunners at Hespeler Memorial Arena to play what turned out to be a close game. With the Gryphons controlling most of the play in the first half, the game remained scoreless going into the third period.
The Gryphons had a number of power play opportunities but were unable to capitalize until late in the third period when K. Bertrand intercepted a Cambridge pass and finished with a beautiful backhand goal on the Roadrunner net minder.
The Gryphons walked away with their first win of the regular season with R. Byrd earning her first shutout facing a mere 7 shots on goal. The girls will have the week to regroup before they head to Owen Sound on Oct 16th to face off against the 0-2-0 Ice Hawks.
